Frequently Asked Questions

What services do you provide?

We offer comprehensive financial planning and ongoing investment management designed to simplify your financial life. This includes retirement planning, investment strategy, tax-aware planning, Roth conversions, and coordination with your CPA or estate attorney when needed.

We value relationships with our clients - our goal is to bring all the moving pieces together so you can feel organized and confident about your financial future.

Who do you typically work with?

We work with individuals and families who value thoughtful planning and long-term relationships. Many of our clients are:

  • Pre-retirees and retirees
  • Professionals and business owners
  • Federal Government Employees
  • Families building long-term wealth
  • Individuals navigating retirement plan decisions

If you’re looking for guidance, structure, and a steady hand you’re likely a great fit.

How are you compensated?

Transparency is important to us. We are compensated through a clearly stated advisory fee for managing investments and/or a planning fee, depending on the services you need.

We’ll always explain exactly how fees work before you decide to move forward - no surprises, ever.

Are you a fiduciary?

Yes. We act as fiduciaries, which means we are legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interest at all times. Our advice is based on what’s best for you - not on commissions or product incentives.

Your goals and objectives drive every recommendation.

What is your investment philosophy?

We believe successful investing is built on:

  • Long-term discipline
  • Diversification
  • Appropriate risk management
  • Tax efficiency
  • Avoiding emotional decision-making

Markets will fluctuate and that’s normal. Our role is to build a strategy aligned with your goals and objectives to help you stay confidently on track through all market environments.

How often will we meet?

We typically meet at least annually — often semi-annually — depending on your needs and stage of life. Of course, you’re never limited to scheduled meetings. If something changes or you simply have a question, we’re here.

And during periods of market volatility, we proactively communicate so you’re never left wondering what’s happening.

Disclosures: Investing involves risk, including the potential loss of principal. No investment strategy can guarantee a profit or protect against loss in periods of declining values. There is no guarantee that a diversified portfolio will enhance overall returns or outperform a non-diversified portfolio. Diversification does not protect against market risk.

Is there a minimum to work with you?

We do have investment minimums for ongoing portfolio management, which we’re happy to discuss during an introductory call. In most cases, we also offer planning-only engagements.

How do you help during market volatility?

Market ups and downs are part of investing. During volatile periods, we focus on:

  • Reviewing your long-term plan
  • Ensuring your allocation still matches your goals
  • Rebalancing when appropriate
  • Providing perspective and calm guidance

Often, the most valuable thing we do is help clients avoid making emotional decisions that could derail long-term success.

Do you offer financial planning services if I don’t have assets under
management with your firm?

Yes, absolutely. While many of our clients choose to have us manage their investment portfolios, we also offer financial planning services on a standalone basis.

Whether you need guidance on retirement planning, cash flow, tax strategy, or overall financial organization, we’re happy to provide personalized advice - even if your assets are held elsewhere. We’re flexible in how we structure our relationships and can discuss a planning engagement that makes sense for you.

Asset allocation does not ensure a profit or protect against a loss.

Rebalancing a portfolio may cause investors to incur tax liabilities and/or transaction costs. Rebalancing and asset allocationdo not assure a profit or protect against a loss.

What happens in the first meeting?

The first meeting is simply a conversation to get to know one another - there’s no pressure and no obligation.
We’ll discuss:

  • What prompted you to reach out
  • Your goals and priorities
  • Any concerns or questions you have
  • Whether we’re a good fit to work together

You’ll walk away with clarity about next steps, even if those next steps don’t include working with us.

Why should I work with a financial advisor instead of managing my investments myself?

Many investors are capable of managing their own investments. Where we provide value is helping clients make informed decisions across all aspects of their financial lives.

Beyond investment management, we provide ongoing financial planning, tax-aware strategies, retirement income planning, behavioral coaching during market volatility, and coordination with other professionals, helping bring clarity and confidence to complex financial decisions.

Will you help me make decisions beyond my investments?

Yes.

While investment management is an important part of what we do, our advice extends beyond your portfolio. We regularly help clients evaluate retirement decisions, Social Security timing, Roth conversions, cash flow, charitable giving, tax-efficient withdrawal strategies, education planning, and major life decisions.

Our goal is to help you make confident financial decisions throughout every stage of life.

Can you work with my CPA and estate planning attorney?

Absolutely. We believe the best financial outcomes come from good communication between your trusted professionals.

With your permission, we're happy to coordinate with your CPA, estate planning attorney, insurance professional, or other advisors to help ensure everyone is working toward the same goals.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple.

Schedule an introductory meeting, and we'll spend time learning about your goals, answering your questions, and discussing whether we're the right fit for one another. If you decide to move forward, we'll guide you through each step of the onboarding process.

How will we communicate?

We want communication to be easy and convenient.

You'll have direct access to our team by phone or email whenever questions arise. We also schedule regular review meetings and proactively reach out during significant market events or when we identify planning opportunities.

Do you specialize in Federal Government employees?

Yes.

We work with many Federal employees and understand the unique benefits available through federal service, including the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), pensions, FEGLI life insurance, FERS retirement benefits, and retirement timing decisions. We help clients make informed choices that fit into their broader financial plan.
